Chet's part was transcribed as accurately as I can, while the rhythm guitar and percussion were "arranged" in a style similar to what is on the record without actually transcribing it. My goal in transcribing this tune was to make it as easy to learn to play as possible, without sacrificing the artistry that is Chet. If one listens to the Tabledit midi playback, it will sound a little square or without the feeling Chet plays. To get the tab to sound like his feeling (if possible?!?!) resulted in a lot of extra notation. I felt it detracted from the tab. If one learns the tune from the tab and then plays along with Chet, the feeling and the slides during position transitions will come. Parts of this transcription could be played in several different locations. I couldn't tell what position many of the notes were played . I think what is most important is trying to be as fluid as was Chet. The positions I noted allowed me to maintain a lefthand rhythm. The ending is kind of interesting in that it is played off the beat. Oh yeah, about the last 24 measures: in about 1980 I went to one of Chet's concerts in Orlando, Fl. The second tune Chet played, solo on a classical guitar, was introduced as follows by Chet. Chet, Paul, and the backup band were discussing some great old tunes that weren't played very often. Someone brought up the "Blue Steel Blues". Chet said he couldn't get it out of his mind. He played a thumblick version that started off in first position. Although he never recorded it this way (at least to my knowledge), the transcription from memory is pretty close to what Chet played. Anyway, it does not contain any lick Chet hasn't played thousands of times before.
