CC 6/9In my estimation, Laura is one of the greatest movie themes of all time. My first exposure to this composition was the arrangement by Laurindo Almeida in the collection "Contemporary Moods for Classical Guitar". I recommend this arrangement especially for the beautiful tremolo part in the 2nd pass.

According to my notes, I originally arranged this piece in May, 1975. I hadn't played it since shortly after arranging it and I'd forgotten just what a beautiful, haunting melody it has. My two passes are sufficiently different from Maestro Almeida's that the two arrangements can be combined and played as one long (more than 5 minutes) composition.

This arrangement is mostly taken from the piano sheet music. I tried to capture those lush chords from the orchestration. For a variation, in the 2nd pass, I've moved the melody down an octave to be either the lowest voice or a middle voice where the addition of a bass note could help out.

Additionally, I'd recommend taking liberties with the time. The TEF is written in strict 4/4, but a freer interpretation brings out the emotion in melody.

None of the fingering is particularly difficult or requires special gymnastics. In the 2nd pass there are 5 fret stretches over a minor chord form, but these are high enough up the neck that they aren't much of a stretch.

Measures 48 and 49: These two measures employ a triplet P I M arpeggio as a contrasting flourish. It's not nearly as difficult to perform as it may sound listening to the MIDI playback. It's actually a descending A Major scale, harmonized with triads, but the 2nd string is left open. The last chord of Ms. 48 is an E min7 on the open strings which gives time to go to the 11 fret and finger the E9 chord.

Measure 64: The ending can have a very nice harp like effect by letting each note ring as long as possible and fingering the C, E, and G notes at the end of the measure just prior to playing.
