Maestro Savio was an Uruguayan that studied under the most famous pupil of Franscisco Trrega, Miguel Llobet. He taught guitar in Sao Paulo, Brazil and his most famous pupils are Luiz Bonf and Carlos Barboza-Lima.

There are several tricks that I was taught while learning this piece more than 35 years ago. The first trick is to learn this piece completely by heart without playing the harmonics. Play all bass notes (notes with the stems pointing down) with the thumb (P), and all notes with the stems pointing up with the ring finger (A). That may be a little unusual feeling but well worth the minor adjustment. The transition to playing the artificial harmonics will be minimal.

The one trick that Maestro Savio incorporated in his arrangement was the use of a natural 2nd harmonic. These are found in the 2nd part and are shown as open harmonic notes. The first of these occur in Ms. 33 and 34. Play the harmonic as you would an artificial harmonic while noting the 1st string on the 7th fret. In fact, its a good lesson to learn by comparing the artificial harmonic on the 7th fret with a natural 2nd harmonic. They are the same note.

My first exposure to this composition was Chet Atkins LP "Lovers Guitar". He had a 2nd guitar playing rhythm and a counter melody. Later I discovered that Luiz Bonf had recorded this composition on a 1950s LP entitled "Brazilian Guitar". Later, Chet and Lenny Breau would record as a guitar duo another tune from that LP. My guess is that Chet learned this tune from that LP.

My only diversion from Maestro Savio's manuscript is that he had the A bass notes as noted on the 6th string, 5th fret throughout. I didn't see any particular reason for this and I changed it to an open 5th string.c0 %).38Classical Guitar
