IIIE7 d    @h    	hGA min7           EEEC                 Ab E7               EEfEEA7               CCdCCG7               BB##C6/9  The key of On the Chet Atkins and Doc Watson LP "Reflections", Chet says that the Tennessee Rag is a tune that he and Homer and Jethro used to play years ago.  That album gives Chet credit for writing it.

This transcription is taken from a 1954 video that I found on www.youtube.com.  The video does a fade in, and with the applause and fade in, the first three measures are lost.  I created those measures from others found later in the tune.

The video shows a rhythm guitarist and at times the bass part can be heard, but both are at really low levels.  I made no attempt to transcribe either, but rather wrote those parts in  a simple style using chords and basslines that are found in other of Chet's recordings of the period.

Measure 3:  Note the E7 on the 3rd and 4th beats.  A simple C chord with a D note sounds like an E7+5 chord, so it's easy to overlook.  The sound on this video is not very good and if I hadn't seen Chet's hand make the chord, I would have missed it altogether. 

Measure 1:  I used a bass run as Chet did in Measure 65 as my best guess as to how Chet kicked the tune off.

Measures 2 & 3:  I used Measures 10 and 11 to fill in those missing parts.

Measure 9:  The first of lots of bass slides that sound so rich in this arrangement.  Chet uses his thumb as Merle Travis did to get that rich sound.

Measure 48:  Looking at Chet's hands in the video, he notes the C on the 5th string, 3rd fret as Merle Travis played that chord, but it isn't sounded.  Since it doesn't add anything to the measure, I didn't show it on the chord diagram.

Measure 64:  Note that this is a jazz player's variation on the chord run of measure 48.  It has a different flavor because the notes are played so that they don't ring like they do in a chord arpeggio.  Chet just plays a simple G7 arpeggio instead of the G13 with open strings.

Measure 66:  Chet adds some additional interest by using a different chord form for the C chord used in previous measures.  This time he's playing a C9 chord, freeing his first finger to get the A note on the 1st string.  I couldn't hear the D note on the 7th fret, 3rd string, but I added it at a lower dynamic.  That chord shows up really well on the video.  If one can't quite manage that C9 form, a simple barred C7 on the 8th fret will substitute for all but the pickiest of Chet scholars.

Measures 82 and 83:  Chet borrows this chord progression from the Little Rock Getaway that he'd recorded about the same time as this video.  In Measure 83, the last chord looks like the highest note is a C in the video for a "long A" type C chord.  If it were a completely stolen lick from the LRG, then it would be a Bb on the 6th fret.  The audio isn't very clear so I put the C note in.  But anyone of the notes on the 1st string from the 5th to the 8th fret work just fine, with just subtle differences.  My suggestion is to try them all and use your favorite.

Measures 85:  The C6/9 chord can be fingered differently than the left thumb on the 5th and 6th strings, but I put it there to be faithful to the video.
